Origin: Uji & Kagoshima, Japan

Jade Leaf Organic Ceremonial Matcha

Stone-ground ceremonial-grade matcha sourced directly from Japan's two most respected tea regions: Uji (Kyoto) and Kagoshima. This is the matcha Americans pick when they want the real thing without paying $50 for a tin.

Why Jade Leaf

Authentic Japanese sourcing. Shade-grown for three weeks, hand-picked, steamed, stone-milled in Japan. Not the generic "matcha powder" sold by countless Amazon brands that repackage low-grade green tea.

Ceremonial grade. Meaning: vivid jade-green color, smooth umami-sweet flavor, zero bitterness when whisked with 175°F water. Meant for traditional bowl-style preparation, though it works beautifully in lattes too.

USDA Organic. No pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no artificial anything.

Exceptional value. Tin sizes from 30g to 1kg. The 30g tin makes ~50 grande lattes at roughly $0.50 of matcha per drink — a fraction of the $6 you'd pay at Starbucks.

Flavor profile

  • Vivid umami savoriness — like a clear Japanese broth
  • Natural sweetness — no sugar needed when whisked properly
  • Vegetal freshness — fresh spring greens, edamame
  • Smooth finish — no bitterness or astringency with correct preparation
  • Clean, long aftertaste — the mark of real ceremonial-grade matcha

How to use

Traditional whisked (usucha): Sift 1-2g of matcha into a bowl, add 2-3 oz of water at 175°F, whisk vigorously in a "W" motion with a bamboo chasen for 15-20 seconds. Drink immediately.

Matcha latte: Sift 1 tsp into a cup, whisk with 1 tbsp hot water to a paste, add 8 oz of steamed oat milk and sweetener. See our Starbucks matcha latte recipe.

Cold matcha: Shake 1 tsp matcha, 2 tsp cold water, and 6 oz cold milk in a Mason jar for 30 seconds. Pour over ice.

Baking & smoothies: 1 tsp adds vivid color and grassy sweetness to any smoothie or baked good.

Health benefits

Because matcha is whole-leaf green tea powder (not steeped leaves), each serving contains roughly 10x the antioxidants of regular brewed green tea. A 1-2g serving delivers:

  • Catechins including EGCG — antioxidant support
  • L-theanine — calm, focused energy without jitters
  • Natural caffeine (~60-80mg per serving) — half of coffee, delivered gradually over 3-4 hours
  • Chlorophyll — from the shade-growing process

Zero calories, zero sugar, zero artificial anything.

These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Matcha is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Perfect for

  • First-time matcha drinkers who want the real thing without the $50 tin
  • Coffee drinkers transitioning to steadier, lower-caffeine mornings
  • Matcha latte enthusiasts who want to stop paying Starbucks $6 per drink
  • Home bakers adding authentic color and flavor to recipes
  • Anyone who has tried cheap Amazon matcha and found it grassy or bitter

Storage

Keep in the sealed tin in a cool, dark place. After opening, refrigerate and use within 2 months for peak flavor. Unopened tin lasts 12 months.
